Description

This was an interior illo for Mongoose Publishing's "Conan: The Pirate Isles" supplement. I did a fair number of pirates for them over a month or two, enough to make me slightly dazed and giggly and inclined to shout "Avast, ye scurvy dogs!" at odd intervals*, but the pirates were largely the classic Conan type, which meant they had the very chiselled, body-builder builds and the almost Vallejo-esque sculpted bodies and whatnot. Then there was a last minute need for art and I had this sketch lying around, so I was delighted to get a chance to paint the VERY atypical female pirate, the Sea Hag. She turned out to be far and away my favorite of the lot. And she's got a monkey! Who doesn't love a monkey?
